JobWave is Canada’s most successful employment program. With our focus on developing employability skills and leveraging valued partnerships, we have helped income assistance recipients in British Columbia attain over 61,000 job placements. We have demonstrated enormous success in placing people from diverse client groups into employment, including Aboriginal peoples, persons with disabilities, youth and immigrants.

JobWave - July 2006 to present
Since July 2006, the newest JobWave has been delivered under the framework of the BC Employment Program in over 200 communities. In partnership with The British Columbia Chamber of Commerce, 25 local chambers, 48 community agencies, the provincial government and the business sector, JobWave is projected to help another 43,000 clients reach their employment potential by 2010.

What JobWave offers participants
At JobWave, we offer a broad range of innovative services with significant one-on-one support to help income assistance recipients achieve their employment goals. These services include:

  • needs assessments and the development of targeted, individualized action plans
  • résumé writing, employment and life skills workshops, interview tips and career counselling
  • a marketing team that generates job leads for an exclusive job bank
  • financial supports for items related to the job search
  • ongoing follow-up support to ensure job retention

How JobWave benefits employers
When employers hire through our JobWave program, they benefit for the following reasons:

  • Employer Solutions Representatives tailor the hiring process to every business and provide post-placement support
  • candidates are pre-screened for skills and attitude by our Case Coordinators, saving employers valuable time
  • employers avoid screening fees, placement fees and costly newspaper ads with our free job postings and placement services

JobWave - January 2000 to June 2006
Our previous JobWave model was performance-based and aimed at moving income assistance recipients into full-time, unsubsidized employment. With our client-centered and individualized services, we achieved outstanding results:

  • we helped participants attain 57,000 job placements throughout British Columbia
  • 82% of clients found job placements within their first 2 months in the program
  • we helped reduce the number of British Columbians on income assistance by over 230,000 between 1995 and 2006, saving taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars
  • clients earned an average wage of $11.52/hour ($23,000 yearly) - 44% higher than minimum wage
  • we achieved one of the best retention rates in North America, with 80% of participants retaining at least 12 months of full-time, unsubsidized employment. In fact, many of our clients have been back at work for 5–10 years

Business Works - Where it all started
Launched in 1996, WCG’s Business Works program ultimately expanded into three phases and ran through 2003 before leading into the current JobWave and Triumph initiatives.

This pioneering program relied on forging strong relationships with local chambers of commerce and member businesses to create workplace-based training opportunities and connect workers with employers. The legacy of Business Works' focus on changing lives through community connections can still be felt today in our program delivery models.

While Business Works is not currently being delivered by WCG, it remains one of the many programs in our suite of services designed to address labour force issues.
